Odgers Berndtson’s Leadership Confidence Index 2022, published in partnership with Forrester, has found 42% of executives now feel that their organisations have the right leaders. So why is this the case and what do leaders need to focus on to get the full support of their board and executives?
Co-authors of the report, Mark Braithwaite, Managing Director of Odgers Berndtson APAC, and James McQuivey, VP, Research Director of Forrester’s Future of Work recently hosted a webinar and explored these questions.
In an ever-changing business environment, leadership strategy has never been more important.
We preserved as much of the original method from the 2020 Index as possible, at the same time as adding to it. This helped us provide a two-year comparison, while pursuing current leadership trends.
We identified lists of thousands of board level, C-level, and their direct reports from around the globe, fielding the questions in November 2021. This meant we could capture the variations across the planet, and resulted in 1100 responses.
Our determination of confidence is a response of 8, 9, or 10, on a 1 – 10 scale. So 42% of respondents ranked their confidence in their leaders at either an 8, 9, or 10.
Importantly, we built into the survey a mechanism to ensure this wasn’t simply CEOs telling us how good they are. People were able to evaluate themselves as well as their peers, and the Index is primarily a summary of their evaluation of their peers. Because it was a confidential survey, individuals responded with frankness and honesty about the executives in their organisations.
