Women in the sports business

Getting more women into the top echelons of sport

Sport is at the forefront of social change and social perception throughout the world. As one of the most high-profile aspects of daily life, it is vital that women are equally represented across the sports and media industries.

At an event earlier this year, we brought together some of the UK's and the World's leading sports and media executives to examine the future of women in sport and the challenges we still face in increasing the number of women who excel at the highest levels of the industry.

Delia Bushell

Director of TV & Sport, BT Group

"Women need to be better at 'winging it'"

Barbara Slater

BBC Director of Sport

"We've already entered this virtuous circle [for women's sport]... you give something coverage, that grows interest... and that grows coverage"

Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson

Paralympian, Broadcaster, and Chair of the Leadership 20:20 Commission

"Women's sport makes up 5% of total sports coverage. Because of that, there's less sponsorship... it's an ever decreasing circle, and we need to break out of [it]"

Baroness Virginia Bottomley

Chair of the Odgers Berndtson Board Practice

Simon Cummins

Head of the Odgers Berndtson Sports Practice
