Dr Xolani Mkhwanazi is an internationally experienced executive, serving on a number of boards including South32 and Murray & Roberts.
He has extensive executive leadership, business and technical experience in the Energy, Mining and the public sector. Xolani was formerly president and COO Aluminium, Southern Africa at BHP Billiton and Chairman of BHP Billiton South Africa from 2009 to 2015. Before joining BHP Billiton, he was CEO of Bateman Africa Limited. He was previously CEO of the National Electricity Regulator of South Africa where he was responsible for rebuilding the organisation into a world-class regulatory authority. Xolani was also responsible for setting up and leading a number of regional and African-wide regulatory bodies.
Xolani is a physicist with an MSc and PhD in Applied Physics from the University of Lancaster.
