Meet the undergraduate CEO of IKEA (for a day)
Maria Poonawala's CEOx1Day experience helped propel her post-graduation career
Maria Poonawala became CEO of IKEA Canada (for a day) before she even graduated from the Global Management Studies program. The incredible experience and her time at the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) helped propel her to a post-graduation career as a performance improvement consultant in Ernst & Young’s technology consulting practice.
Maria chose TRSM for its access to career opportunities – thanks to the school’s proximity to the industry in downtown Toronto – as well as for the chance to immerse herself in the educational experience. In addition to being selected as a finalist in the Odgers Berndtson’s CEOx1Day competition, Maria held roles as director of delegate development for DECA Ryerson and as a marketing specialist for the Career Centre – she even leveraged her experience at the Career Centre to give IKEA Canada CEO Stefan Sjöstrand a few tips on his LinkedIn profile.
TRSM offers a dynamic, diverse, collaborative, and hands-on learning environment that’s connected to the industry in downtown Toronto. TRSM is a new kind of business school, one that helps students like Maria launch careers with companies that are thriving in the changing world of business.
