Morena Makhoana

Morena ‘Makhoana is the Chief Executive Officer of The Biovac Institute, Southern Africa’s only human vaccine manufacturer. Biovac has successfully built modern biotech infrastructure in partnership with the South African government and has successfully entered into a partnership with global vaccine organisations for the development of new vaccines as well as technology transfers for the local manufacture of leading vaccines. Morena’s primary focus has been to ensure that the strategy of end to end capability in vaccine development and manufacture is realised in Southern Africa through Biovac.

Prior to the current position, he was the deputy CEO of Biovac and before that Medical Affairs Manager of Biovac. Morena is a qualified medical graduate from the University of Cape Town (UCT). He has also participated in Senior Executive Program studies with both Stanford Graduate School of Business and most recently with Harvard Business School.
