On a mild Halloween evening on Sydney Harbour, CFO Practice Head Phil McCann and his team hosted over 100 of Australia’s leading CFO’s and Audit Chairs for an inaugural Odgers Berndtson Finance Dinner.

ANZ Bank Chief Executive Shayne Elliott proved a captivating guest speaker, providing his insights into the transition from CFO to CEO. Odgers Berndtson Board Practice Leader, Julie Steiner, opened proceedings with an overview of recent board appointments and diversity initiatives followed by Phil’s CFO overview and insights.

Andrew Cornell, a former journalist with the Australian Financial Review and now with ANZ, interviewed Shayne with what was a relaxed and disarming format. Shayne shared his unique and refreshingly frank observations of leadership, organisation culture, risk and governance, as well as building constructive relationships with boards and audit committees. The evening concluded with Shayne hosting an open forum, fielding insightful questions from an informed audience.

Feedback on the night was universally positive with many commenting that the unique format of the event, combined with such an engaging speaker, positioned the annual dinner as an unmissable event on the financial calendar.
