FAQs

For Students

Question 1. Are graduate (Masters or PhD) students eligible to apply for CEOx1Day?

Answer 1. Unfortunately not. The CEOx1Day program is open to all in 2nd and 3rd year undergraduates in Singapore. (See additional details on eligibility, including a list of evaluation criteria, here.)

Question 2. Will I be informed if I am not chosen to move forward in the selection process?

Answer 2. Yes, applicants are notified at every stage of the process by email, whether they have been selected to move ahead or not.

Question 3. How do I know that my online application was accepted?

Answer 3. Once you click the ‘Register’ button, the page will refresh and you’ll see the following message: “Thank you for submitting your application. A member of our team will come back to you as soon as possible.” If you don’t see this message, your application wasn’t successfully submitted.

If you have any issues with your submission, email CEOx1DaySG@odgersberndtson.com

Question 4. What kinds of experiences do participating companies plan for finalists?

Answer 4. The day spent with the Chief Executive is tailored by the CEO according to the nature of that business and the interests of the applicant. The CEOs involved lead very different types of organisations and will, therefore, expose each student to different experiences. All students will learn about the role of the CEO in the organisation, learn about their organisations, witness a typical day and have a chance to ask their questions and speak to the CEO about his or her experience.

Question 5. How are CEOx1Day finalists selected?

Answer 5.  Students must meet specific criteria in order to move through each phase of the program’s selection process. Review the evaluation criteria for each phase of the selection process.

Question 6. I’ve been selected as a semi-finalist; can I indicate which CEO I’d like to be matched with, should I become a finalist?

Answer 6. During the telephone interview stage of the selection process, students will be asked which CEO they would prefer to be matched with and their availabilities. These preferences will be taken into consideration, but note that the final decision rests with Odgers Berndtson. As experts in executive search, our Partners and Consultants will determine the best match for each CEO based on each student’s profile, in tandem with their field of study and experience.

Question 7. I’ve been selected as a finalist, but the date for my CEOx1Day event conflicts with my class schedule. Can the date be switched?

Answer 7. We ask for semi-finalists’ availabilities during the phone interview and the date for each CEOx1Day event has been booked with the CEO’s organization months in advance. Therefore it cannot be changed. If you have a conflict due to an exam or project, Odgers Berndtson would be pleased to provide a letter to your school that outlines your involvement in the program. Alternatively, if you’re selected as a finalist but are unable to attend the event on the date that has been scheduled for you and your CEO, we’ll have to give your spot to another semi-finalist.

For Companies

Question 1. My company is interested in participating in the CEOx1Day program in Singapore. How do I sign up?

Answer 1. We’d love to talk with you about how your organisation can get involved. Please contact Novina (Marketing), Odgers Berndtson Singapore.

Question 2. When does CEOx1Day take place?

Answer 2. The CEOx1Day event takes place in February, but preparation begins in the fall of the year when you’ve confirmed your participation (i.e., preparation begins in September 2019 and your CEOx1Day event takes place in February 2020).

Question 3. Do we get involved in picking the student finalists?

Answer 3. As experts in executive search, we take the time to match each student finalist carefully to each participating CEO. However, Odgers Berndtson will ask for any student preferences up front when your company is engaged in the process — and we will take these into account when matching your organisation’s CEO with the best finalist.

Question 4. What kind of preparation is required for my organisation?

Answer 4. We try to make it as easy and hassle-free as possible for organisations to participate in the CEOx1Day program. After your organisation’s participation has been confirmed in the program, we’ll contact you to get your CEO’s headshot, bio, and company logo, which will be published on our website. Then our dedicated CEOx1Day team member will work with you to develop your agenda for your event, and will help to create an experience that’s meaningful for both the CEO and the finalist!
