The selection process

Seven students will be matched with a CEO from a significant Danish company. The winners will be chosen through a rigorous recruitment process designed to gauge their leadership potential. Participants must be graduates or last year under-graduate students from the selected universities.

STAGE 1: Applying for CEOx1Day

You must complete and submit an online application which will be reviewed by Odgers Berndtson’s team of executive search experts. Your application must include:

  • Your contact information

  • Information about your studies

  • A resume summarising your paid/unpaid work experience, extra-curricular activities, community involvement or charity work, and awards

  • A non-disclosure agreement in case you are among the winners of the CEOx1Day program

Evaluation Criteria for stage 1:

Applications will be evaluated on students’ study success, the breadth of their work/volunteer experience and extracurricular activities.

7 October to 6 November 2017

STAGE 2: Online Leadership Assessment and Essays

Selected students will then be asked to complete an online personality assessment to create a profile of their competencies and leadership potential, which will be reviewed by our consultants.

Furthermore, you will be asked to write two short essays on the following topics:

  1. In your opinion, what characterizes good leadership?
  2. What role will sustainability play for businesses in the future?

Each essay should not be more than 1,000 characters.

Evaluation Criteria for stage 2:

Personality assessment: Applicants will be assessed on the strengths and competencies that are reflective of a confident and ambitious individual who handles stress effectively, is politically astute, dependable, and values learning and developing new skills.

Essays: Applicants will be assessed on the quality, creativity and innovation of their essay answers.

10 November to 17 November 2017

3 hours

STAGE 3: Phone Interviews

Selected students will be contacted to participate in a short telephone interview with one of our executive search consultants.

Evaluation Criteria for stage 3:

Applicants will be evaluated over the phone on the quality of their answers to the interview questions and their ability to articulate themselves.

24 November to 30 November 2017

STAGE 4: Business Simulations and In-Person Interviews

Organised in co-operation with Boston Consulting Group, the finalists become management teams of a simulated corporation and compete against one another in a demanding market. Leading a company is a constant balancing act between long-term strategy and short-term financial performance. The applicants get to do exactly that – in a safe simulated environment. In Management teams, they will take on the executive roles such as CEO, CFO and Head of Strategy. Success in running the company will require analytical skills, ability to adapt to a complex problem-solving environment and also the ability to work as a team. High-quality decisions require high-performing teams; time will not be working for the applicants since finding and utilising individual strengths must happen in mere hours.

Following the business simulations, each student will be personally interviewed by one of our consultants or partners and a representative from BCG. Subject matters of the interviews will first and foremost be feedback on the online leadership assessments completed in Phase 2 and evaluation of the business simulation.

Evaluation Criteria for stage 4:

Finalists will be assessed on how they think on their feet, work in a group situation and their overall fit with our CEOs through activities like case studies, presentations and in-person interviews.

STAGE 5: CEOx1Day Event

Each program winner will spend a full day shadowing a CEO, learning about their background, career path, and how they create value in their organisation. Finalists will have an opportunity to spend one-on-one time with the CEO, attend meetings with their leadership team and tour the company’s facilities. Each CEOx1 Day experience will include elements unique to the host company that ensure it is a meaningful and memorable experience for both the student and the CEO.

STAGE 6: Evaluation

Following the CEOx1Day event, Odgers Berndtson might reach out to the winners regarding participation in interviews and other activities revolving about their experience and feedback on the programme.
