Paul Butterworth is a Partner, Chair of the Odgers Berndtson Global Transport & Logistics Practice and Head of the Maritime & Shipping Practice, based in London. He has over 30 years' experience of the maritime sector, nearly twenty of which have been in executive search. This builds upon a first career that saw him serving at sea, where he enjoyed two ship Commands in the Royal Navy.

Mirroring the global nature of shipping, he works in both the UK and international markets. He has placed senior and operational executives and also non-executives and chairs, in many sub-sectors of the wider Maritime & Shipping industry, both in the private and public sectors.

He trained at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth and has an LLB (Hons) Law degree from the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. He is a Younger Brother of Trinity House, an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute (AFNI) and a member of the Shipping Professionals Network in London (SPNL). He is a Court Assistant and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights, sitting on its Nominations Committee, all of which affords him an extensive network throughout the UK and international maritime community.

Paul became the Chair of The Seafarers’ Charity, a national charity that helps people in the maritime community, by providing vital funding to support seafarers in need and their families in June 2020, after three years as a trustee. He is a keen sailor.
