The Toronto Region Board of Trade’s Annual Dinner is a marquee event that gathered the city’s top builders, influencers, business leaders and politicians for an elegant evening at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre on Thursday, February 7, 2019.
The event was kicked off by Toronto Region Board of Trade’s President and CEO, Jan De Silva who described the region’s successes and highlighted how the region continues to be one of the most competitive and sought-after business regions in the world. The keynote speaker Paddy Cosgrave, Global Tech Entrepreneur, CEO & Co-Founder of Web Summit, Collision & RISE spoke about why he chose Toronto as the 2019 location for his globally renowned tech conference, Collision. The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau was also in attendance and took part in an armchair discussion with Jan De Silva.
Carl Lovas, Chairman & CEO of Odgers Berndtson spoke to the importance of the region’s high calibre talent, as well as supporting the development of Canada’s future leaders through our CEOx1Day program. Carl then introduced five CEOx1Day Alumni Finalists who were in attendance at the dinner and reinforced our firm’s commitment to their development, as well as the region’s future talent.
The closing and inspirational remarks were given by Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, Chief Scientific Advisor, Vector Institute; Vice-President and Engineering Fellow, Google & Emeritus; Distinguished Professor of Computer Science, University of Toronto, who was the recipient of the annual Toronto Region Builder Award.
