Altus Group reports on their experience with York University student

Sayjon Ariyarathnam, a fourth year student completing his B.A. Honours with a Double Major in Criminology & Human Rights and Equity Studies at York University, was paired with Altus Group’s CEO Robert Courteau.

TORONTO ‒ Altus Group Limited (“Altus Group”) (TSX:AIF) Chief Executive Officer Robert Courteau was pleased to be chosen for the second consecutive year as one of the 18 CEOs to participate in Odgers Berndtson’s CEO x 1 Day, a program that selects third and fourth year university students to spend a day shadowing some of the country’s top CEOs.

Sayjon Ariyarathnam, a fourth year student completing his B.A. Honours with a Double Major in Criminology & Human Rights and Equity Studies at York University, was paired with Altus Group’s CEO Robert Courteau. Ariyarathnam spent the day shadowing Courteau and accompanying him to meetings with senior staff.

“It was a great experience being paired with one of Canada’s most promising future leaders,” said Bob Courteau, CEO, Altus Group. “Spending the day with Sayjon and gaining his perspective as well as being able to share some of the insights and lessons I’ve gained over the course of my career was a rewarding experience. Sayjon is an ambitious and accomplished student and was a great addition to our team for the day.”

Designed to help the students gain insight into what it takes to foster a culture of collaboration and innovation and steer companies to success, the CEO x 1 Day program gives them the opportunity to learn from some of Canada’s best-performing executives who run dynamic, expansive companies.

“Surrounded by leaders in the university setting, it was no surprise to see very similar traits being exemplified by Bob Courteau at Altus Group. I had the opportunity to shadow Bob for a day, getting to know some of the high level executive decisions that a CEO makes. Needless to say, I gained some valuable insight throughout the day, primarily concerning a future career path,” said Sayjon Ariyarathnam, York University student.  “As a CEO, he had a leadership style that was inclusive and encouraging while simultaneously being task-oriented and driven. If I was to point to one nugget of wisdom that I learned from this entire experience, I would say that knowing the general direction of where you want to go is imperative, but one also needs to be open to detours along the way. Bob was an incredible mentor and I intend on keeping him in my network while I develop my career.”
