Q: Are graduate (Masters or Ph.D.) students eligible to apply for CEOx1Day?
A:. Unfortunately not. The CEOx1Day program is open to all third- and fourth-year students enrolled full-time in a Canadian university or degree-granting college undergraduate program. (See additional details on eligibility, including a list of evaluation criteria, here.)
Q: Will I be informed if I am not chosen to move forward in the selection process?
A: Yes, applicants are notified at every stage of the process by email, whether they have been selected to move ahead or not.
Q: How do I know that my online application was accepted?
A:. Once you click the ‘Register’ button, the page will refresh and you’ll see the following message: “Your application was successfully submitted. Thank you.” If you don’t see this message, your application wasn’t successfully submitted.
If you have any issues with your submission, email email@example.com.
Q: What kinds of experiences do participating companies plan for finalists?
A: As this year the CEOx1Day will be a Virtual Future Leaders Summit, each CEO will be paired with 10 finalist students and each breakout session will be tailored to the CEO and organization to ensure an experience that is both meaningful and unique for the CEOs and our student finalists.
Q: How are CEOx1Day finalists selected?
A: Students must meet specific criteria in order to move through each phase of the program’s selection process. Review the evaluation criteria for each phase of the selection process here.
Q: I completed the Hogan Leadership Assessment Questionnaire in Phase 2 of the selection process, but I wasn’t chosen to move ahead. Will I receive a copy of my leadership report?
A: Yes, students who have completed the Hogan Leadership Assessment Questionnaire but who didn’t move on to the finalist round will receive their report by email once the program finalists have been chosen.
Q: I’ve been selected as a semi-finalist; can I indicate which CEO I’d like to be matched with, should I become a finalist?
A: Yes, during phase 1 - the Application Phase of the selection process, students will be asked which CEO they would prefer to be matched with. These preferences will be taken into consideration, but note that the final decision rests with Odgers Berndtson. As experts in leadership, our Partners and Consultants will determine the best match for each CEO based on each student’s profile, in tandem with their field of study and experience.
Q: I’ve been selected as a finalist, but the date for my CEOx1Day event conflicts with my class schedule. Can the date be switched?
A: We ask for at Phase 1 in the application process for students to confirm their availability for the Future Leaders Summit on February 25th, 2022. This date has been booked with the CEOs and CHRO's organization months in advance. Therefore, it cannot be changed. If you have a conflict due to an exam or project, Odgers Berndtson would be pleased to provide a letter to your school that outlines your involvement in the program. Alternatively, if you’re selected as a finalist but are unable to attend the event on February 25th, 2022 due to something else coming up, we’ll have to give your spot to another finalist.
Q: Benefits of the CEOx1Day program including being considered for an internship with Odgers Berndtson?
A: If you’ve been selected as a finalist, Odgers Berndtson will review your resumé for an internship and we will contact you directly should we feel that you are a fit for our organization.
Q: My company is interested in participating in the CEOx1Day program in Canada. How do I sign up?
A: We’d love to talk with you about how your organization can get involved. Please contact Kristen Ayres, Marketing & Operations Manager, Odgers Berndtson.
Q: When does CEOx1Day take place?
A: The CEOx1Day event takes place in February - this year(we are returning with a twist!)We will be having a CEOx1Day Future Leaders Summit on February 25th, 2022 (the program will return to in person in 2023), but preparation begins in the fall of the year when you’ve confirmed your participation (i.e., preparation begins in September of every year and your CEOx1Day event takes place in February or early March the following year).
Q: Do we get involved in picking the student finalists?
A:. As experts in integrated leadership advisory, we take the time to match each student finalist carefully to each participating CEO. However, Odgers Berndtson will ask for any student preferences up front when your company is engaged in the process — and we will take these into account when matching your organization’s CEO with the best finalist(s).
Q: What kind of preparation is required for my organization?
A: We try to make it as easy and hassle-free as possible for organizations to participate in the CEOx1Day program. After your organization’s participation has been confirmed in the program, we’ll contact you to get your CEO’s headshot, bio, and company logo, which will be published on our website. Then our dedicated CEOx1Day team member will schedule a kickoff/briefing call to formally introduce the team and provide more detailed information about the other CEO and CHRO participants, the agenda for the day and our planned promotional campaigns. Several of our past executive participants found it helpful to have someone from public relations or marketing join the briefing call. And the we work with you to develop your agenda for your event, and will help to create an experience that’s meaningful for both the CEO and the finalist!
