This is according to Emma Donaldson-Feilder, an occupational psychologist and director of consultants at Affinity Health at Work.
Speaking to the Independent, she said one such attribute is rigid attention to detail, which is a positive at a lower level, but can be detrimental for CEOs.
"You'll find that as people go higher up an organisation, the things that were actually strengths at lower levels become over-used and high-risk," Ms Donaldson-Feilder told the newspaper.
She was speaking in response to the release of a book regarding former Royal Bank of Scotland boss Fred Goodwin, which claims he was overly-focused on small details.
Professor Malcolm Higgs, a leading occupational psychologist at the University of Southampton, said many CEOs have "narcissistic" tendencies that are detrimental to the successful running of a company.
He claimed such leaders want to control every aspect of their organisation and cannot accept negative feedback.
