Singapore businesses 'coming around to boardroom diversity'

20 September 2011

Companies in Singapore are becoming increasingly open to the idea of adopting boardroom diversity as a key business policy.

This is according to Singapore Exchange (SGX) independent director Jane Diplock, who told Channel News Asia that the growing focus on productivity is helping to break down barriers preventing female executive recruitment.

According to the expert, women have represented an underutilised talent in the business world until this point, particularly at a boardroom and senior management level.

As such, companies and government bodies alike are realising that it will benefit their business to make greater use of the full range of resources at their disposal.

"That's why we're seeing, all around the world, targets being set for female participation in senior management and female participation in boards," she explained.

This comes after the SGX outlined a new series of strengthened corporate governance measures in a revised code issued earlier this week.
