Indian businesses 'need more transparent communications'

19 December 2011

Greater transparency is needed within the Indian business sector in terms of internal corporate communications.

This is according to industry experts speaking to local publication the Business Standard, who have highlighted the rising importance being placed on employee engagement to promote improved corporate efficiency.

Various companies across the Asian nation are seeking to make their internal practices more transparent to staff members as a means of creating an affinity with corporate goals, while allaying fears over economic trends.

Ganesh Shermon, management consultant at KPMG advisory services, noted that this is necessary in part due to workers becoming savvier since the rise of social media sites.

"Employers cannot give blah-blah lectures to employees about how the organisation is doing. People are aware of the growth rates and of the economic scene. People are asking smart questions," he said.

This comes as the country prepares to introduce new corporate governance legislation, which will replace antiquated older laws which have been in place since the 1950s.
