A new study has shown the growing support for diversity at boardroom level among Canadian directors.
Research carried out by the Institute of Corporate Directors revealed 90 per cent of respondents saw diversity as an issue of importance, while 80 per cent felt a diverse board is better equipped to make important decisions.
Stan Magidson, president and chief executive officer of the Institute of Corporate Directors, commented: "The key is for boards to make diversity a priority and approach it within the context of their particular skills matrix and board composition."
He added improved boardroom diversity can ultimately result in better governance.
Meanwhile, a multitude of high-level Canadian professionals also recently agreed that diversity in the boardroom is the best way for firms to meet the challenges of today's business world.
This included Pamela Jeffery, founder of the Canadian Board Diversity Council, and Michael Bach, director of diversity, equity and inclusion at KPMG.
