Asian companies 'held back by poor corporate communication'

Many businesses in Asia could be seeing their success impeded by a poor standard of corporate communications.

This is the view of Stephen Krempl, chief executive officer of Krempl Communications, who told Malaysian publication the Star that communication failings among those in top positions can have severe repercussions.

The former Starbucks chief learning officer noted common issues among Asian businesses include an inability to articulate views or build relationships with staff and colleagues, as well as a reluctance to discuss bad news.

Mr Krempl said these problems are not currently being paid enough attention, which could risk undermining key business practices.

Among the key issues he highlighted were the "failure to acquire new customers in new geographies ... or business partnerships which floundered because the relationships broke down due to issues not being addressed early on".

This comes at a time when the Asian business sector is growing, with a Mercer report from earlier this year noting an upward trend in Asia-Pacific executive pay rates.
